Isi artikelSchool failure in adaptively normally intelligent children is caused by a complex interaction of genetic brain functions and politically determined societal demands. The symptom complex of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder is discussed in terms of learning disabilities, affective illness, primary disorder of vigilance, and, less so, narcolepsy. A practical approach to office diagnosis using established criteria for these causes of school failure is presented along with a pragmatic approach to successful management.
