Isi artikel
Improved assessment procedures for infants and young children have meant greater precision in qualifying and quantifying hearing loss at an early age. Two approaches available in pediatric audiology to accurately and reliably assess hearing are physiologic and behavioral. The auditory brainstem response and otoacoustic emissions have become powerful physiologic measures. Yet, physiologic measures are not tests of hearing, only indicators of auditory function. A behavioral test (visual reinforcement audiometry and conditioned play audiometry) is the only true test of hearing. Each approach has its strengths and limitations. This article provides the reader with information on physiologic and behavioral tests used in pediatric hearing assessment
