Isi artikelAs joyous as the end of treatment is, it really is only the beginning of a new chapter for the childhood cancer survivor, that of a long-term survivor. Commencing with the end of treatment, the survivor may encounter difficulties with education, employment, and insurance. This article uses actual case histories to discuss some of these difficulties and describe problem-solving methods applied to provide a template for survivors in anticipating, avoiding, neutralizing, or handling similar difficulties. The health care professionals in childhood cancer should support survivors in posttreatment resolution of problems and provide referrals to appropriate resources. The development of networking and problem-solving skills are both imperative in view of the burgeoning population of long-term survivors in the United States.
