Isi artikelIn 1988 the Department of Health and Human Services released its final report from the Secretary’s Commission on Nursing that identified problems and made recommendations related to the recruitment and retention of registered nurses. At the close of the 2001 legislative session the Nurse Reinvestment Act passed, calling for a National Commission on the Recruitment and Retention of Nurses. Looking at the work of the 1988 commission can provide an important starting point and framework for the new commission. The nursing profession must demonstrate the political will to transform the recommendations from these commissions into policy initiatives.
