Mandated health plan coverage for prescription contraceptives and contraceptive services are needed at all levels in the United States. The lack of state-mandated health insurance coverage for prescription contraceptives has contributed to critically high rates of unintended pregnancy in the United States and, in particular, the state of Louisiana. Established policy regarding contraceptive prescription guidelines is needed nationally to ensure safe sexual practices and the control of unwanted pregnancy.
