In the last decades, the private sector has been "trapped" in the traditional problems of debts, improperly managed business diversification, market - share - based expansion, instead of profitability based business development. Due to the economic crisis and political instability, foreign investors are not interested in the short - term portfolio investment because of the current uncertainty in the indonesia stock markets. However, foreign (and domestic) investors are looking forward to profitable business opportunities that could generate export earnings such as in mining, plantations and estate crops, telecommunication, etc. For some investors, indonesia is a not good place for investment, but a wonderful space for speculation. In the coming years, small and medium scale enterprises will obtain a high priority in the government development programs. Bilateral and multilateral agencies will also emphasize the assistance to reduce the rate of welfare deterioration, such as formulated in the on - going social sagety net (SSN) programs. The private sectors should not expect too much for a "normal" credit from the collapsed banking sector, unless reduced interest rates are in place.
