Nutrition deficiency remains one of the uttermost nutrition problems in Indonesia. Since the economic crisis which badly hit this country in 1997, the reduction of purchase capacity has affected the nutrition status of children under five years old. Susenas 1998 data shows the increase of children under five with “severe under weight” condition of Energy-Protein Deficiency, from 6% in 1992 into 10.5 % in 1998. This has definitely creates many health problems especially for underfive, since several study has been acknowledged that nutrition status of under five children will also become one of the main risk factors initiating child growth retardation. In Surkesnas 2001 an attempt to include the necessary information to investigate the relationship between nutrition status and morbidity status of children under five years old has been carried out, and also to relate this essential information to the socioeconomic and demography characteristics of the society. The analysis concludes that morbidity factor happens to be the main cause of nutrition deficiency condition and vice versa. Additionally, household expenditure, education and environment show the sign~flcant influence in explaining this relationship. Economy factor obviously will affect the purchasing capability of nutritious food, environment condition influence person healthy life style to avoid the disease, while education factor show the impact on the occupation, ability to choose nutritious food, and having a clean and healthy lifestyle.
