Disability is main problem of elderly to attain “healthy ageing” as well as “active ageing “. The prevalence of disability increase in accordance with the increasing of age. The US National Health Survey reported that the prevalence of disability on 45-65 year olds are 1,1%, on 65 — 74 year olds are 3,4% and on ~ 75 year olds are 10,7%. Moreover it is projected that the population of elderly with disability in this decade can reach 3 times. The disability prevelence on several countries of Southeast Asia, about 8,3% — 20%. SKRT (2002) reported that the prevalence of disability of the age group ? 65 years in Indonesia were 43,4%. The objective of this research is to aquire the determinant factors of disability of the elderly. The subjects of the research are 60 year olds or older elderly, who live in 5 regions of DKI Jakarta. The research is a cross sectional survey with 100/ samples. The sample are taken with 3-fold cluster-strat~flcation. The result of study shows that the determinant factors contributing to the presence of dependency are sex, age, education level, dementia, depression and sport activity. The determinant factors contributing to the lack of ability, however, are age, diabetes mellitus, dementia, depression, sport activity and smoking.
