Isi artikel
Breastfeeding is the preferred method of feeding for the preterm and the term infant for multiple nutritive and nonnutritive reasons. There are nutritional limitations of human milk for the growing premature infant. Fortification of human milk with a multinutrient fortifier is beneficial and has been demonstrated to enhance growth, protein nutriture, and bone mineralization. This article describes nutritional assessment, types and indications for fortification and supplementation of the breastfed preterm infant after initial hospitalization.
