Although immune deficiency diseases stemming from phagocytic disorders are rare, they are important to diagnose early in life. Infections in these disorders usually involve the skin and soft tissues by common pathogens. Early recognition and aggressive treatment of infections by incision and drainage, surgical débridement, and antibiotics are important. Newer therapies with cytokines, bone marrow transplantation, and gene therapy are promising strategies.
