Lactation insufficiency is commonly observed in mothers of hospitalized infants. Unfortunately, the little understanding that we have on how stress interferes with lactation has limited the development of clinical interventions to help mothers meet the nutritional needs of their infants. This article reviews the current information available on stress and lactation.
