Isi artikelGeneral George F. Doriot an early venture capitalist, founded american research and development corporation (ARD) in 1946. Doriot a professor at the harvard graduate school of business administration, was concerned that the business climate around boston lacked vitality, He wanted ARD to foster new and existing companies. In 1957, Doriot was contacted by kenneth olsen, a young engineer and enterpreneur who wanted to form a company to develop an interactive computer. Doriot saw potential in olsen's proposal and persuaded ARD's board to invest $ 70,000 in his company, which became known as digital equipment corporation (DEC). Over the next 14 years, doriot helped build DEC into a giant in the computer industry. He stayed close to ken olsen, advising him on a wide variety of matters, and always pushed him to focus on long term, development.
