Isi artikel
Physicians must become more knowledgeable about coding pro¬cedures and diagnoses as well as billing issues because of the change in reimbursement and of increased scrutiny by Health Care and Finance Administration (HCFA). CPT codes exist specifically for critical care services, which are bundled and time-based codes. Guidelines for documentation of physician’s services have been outlined by HCFA and the American Medical Association. Lack of adequate documentation has led to fraud and abuse claims by the Office of the Inspector General. Development of a compliance program for faculty group practices as well as individual or small group practices has helped prevent and decrease prosecution for billing fraud, as well as improving billing efficiency.
