Isi artikel
Children in intensive care units commonly require sedation and analgesia, both for the management of procedure-associated pain and fear, and for ongoing analgesic and antianxiolytic needs. This article discusses management strategies for providing pain relief and sedation for critical care patients. The use of indication-based decision making for choosing therapeutic options is described, and safety, monitoring, and organizational issues are discussed. The use of alternatives to systemic agents is presented, including local and regional anesthesia.
