Reading disorders in children present a complex and often frustrating set of problems. Often this frustration leads to a search for a logically simple cure. Current research has failed to implicate vision as a source of these problems. Dyslexia is a much more global dysfunction, and its treatment is also broader in scope. This article examines the causes and effective treatments for children with dyslexia. It also examines treatments that are ineffective and based upon the erroneous concept that reading disorders are secondary to abnormalities of vision.
