This study was aimed to identify the role of garlic as antioxidant and hepatoprotector on CCl4-induced rat. Experimental laboratory method was used in this study. Three different treatments (garlic extract of 2.5 g/kg bw, 5 g/kg bw, and 10 g/kg bw) were given everyday for 8 days. Two control, negative and positive, were used for comparison. MDA (malondialdehyde) examination was performed using TBA (thiobarbituric acid) test and serum GPT (glutamate pyruvate transaminase) examination. Results showed that garlic administration of 10 g/kg bw could prevent the increase of MDA concentration and the increase of GPT concentration. It indicated that garlic dose of 10 g/kg bw had antioxidant and hepatoprotective activity on CCl4-induced rat.
