The purpose of this study was to analyze the genetic diversity of the octamer repeat regions of the PfSERA gene in endemic malaria area within East Nusa Tenggara Province, Indonesia. For this purpose isolates from 2 selected location (6 and 7 samples from Sikka and East Flores regency respectively) were obtained. The octamer repeat regions of those isolates were amplified by polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and compare the PCR product by electrophoresis. Among the 6 and 7 sampels from Sikka and East Flores regency respectively, we get the difference of the length of PCR product, that indicate that there is the genetic diversity of the octamer repeat regions of the PfSERA gene in endemic malaria area within East Nusa Tenggara Province. The result of this study must be considered to be preliminary and in order to obtain a broader picture the number of isolates should be increased and isolates from other endemic areas should be investigated.
