Leachate produced from anaerobic decomposition of refusal open dumping area can polute water sources in its surrounding. Therefore the aim of this study was to measure water chemical quality of dug wells and to analyze correlation between the distance of refusal open dumping to water chemical quality of dug wells in surrounding community. This study was a cross-sectional observasional study. Water chemical quality including hardness of water (CaCO3), nitrite (NO2), nitrate (NO3), sulfat (SO4), iron (Fe), and zink (Zn) were measured from 29 water samples of its surrounding dug wells. Hardness of water (CaCO3) was measured by titrimetic method, while nitrite (NO2), nitrate (NO3), sulfat (SO4), iron (Fe), and zink (Zn) were measured by spectrophotometry. Levels of hardness (853,14 + 564,34 mg/l) and iron (1,27 + 1,81 mg/l) of dug well water were higher than the maximum allowable concentration of clean water according to Permenkes 416/Menkes/Per/IX/1990. Whereas levels of nitrite, nitrate, sulfat and zink were still below the maximum allowable concentration. Sulfat parameter had positive correlation to the distance from open dumping area (Spearman’s correlation test, r = 0,53, p <0,01). While Zink parameter had negative correlation to the distance from open dumping area (Spearman’s correlation test, r = -0,38, p <0,05). Other parametrs were not correlated to the distance from open dumping area. It is concluded that dug well water in open dumping surrounding community does not meet chemical quality of clean water according to Permenkes 416/Menkes/Per/ IX/1990. There is no clear association between the distance from open dumping area and chemical quality of dug well water in its surrounding community. Is needed further study that includes the confounding variables such as characteristics of leachate, topography, soil, underground water stream and location of domestic sewer.
