The purpose of the research done is to study whether financial performance represents discriminant variable of soundness level of Indonesian banking and whether the variable can be used as measurement model for early warning. Financial performance taken is financial ratios which measure capital performance, quality of asset, profitability, liquidity, sensitivity toward market risk and bank size.The research population are Indonesian Commercial Private Bank. Secondary data used in this research are publication financial statement of six year perception time : 1999 - 2004. Therefore, there are 462 (four thousands sixty two) data observed. Multiple Discriminant Analysis with stepwise method is used for analyzing instrument.The Result of the research showed that out of twenty seven variable analysed, only sixteen represent significant discriminat of soundness of BUSN. These sixteen variable comprises of four capital variable, five variable of quality of asset and seven variable of profitability. Where as the variable that measure liquidity, sensitivity toward market risk and size represent insignificant discriminate. Out of sixteen significant discriminant variables only twelve variable that form as function discriminant model. The Application of the actual financial performance condition in discriminant function.
