The gradually phasing-out of fuel subsidy constituted a part of the National Development Program in Act No. 25/2000. To ease the heavy burdens ofthe poor due to fuel subsidy abrogation, the government has given fuel compensation dole to them. The dole was expected to shift the subsidy, formerly enjoyed more by the non poor strata ofthe society, to the poor, so that the latter welfare could be raised accordingly. This paper aimes at gaining a description of the direction of the impact offuel subsidy reduction and compensation dole policy on society's income distribution in Indonesia. The analysis is based on a simulation of the fuelsubsidy abrogation and compensation dole in 2005 using the Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) model. The results of the research show that fuel subsidy abrogation policy could ameliorate society's real income distribution. The distribution would be better if the fuel subsidy abrogation was accompanied by fuel compensation dole. The policy of fuel compensation dole would also improve the poor's real income and the real wages of workers in the agricultural sector.
