Resources are not available to comprehensively evaluate all young athletes before participation in competitive sports. Therefore, the cardiovascular evaluation of young athletes needs to be targeted at high-risk areas and focus on the individials who are at greatest possible risk:those who have suggestive, even if minor, symptoms, and those who have a family history of sudden death or premature cardiac disease.
