Relatively little information is available on the pharmacologic management of sleep disorders in children. Most pharmacologicguidelines were developed for sleep disorders in adults and must be empirically extrapolated to children. The article not only addresses the controversies and problems involved in the pharmacologic treatment of children with sleep disorders but also describes the scientific rationale and clinical basis for selected use of medications in these children.
