Isi artikel
Until the last decade, anxiety disorder were a relatively unrecognized public health problem among older adults. Recent emerging data have suggested a high prevelence and significant impact of anxiety in leter life. A growing body of literature provides evidence-based guidelines for care, although the data still lag far behind what is known about the treatment of depression in leter life. Treatment studies of late-life anxiety and clinical standards of care in this arena have focused largely on the impact of pharmacologic and cognitive-behavioral approaches, following the large body of work in younger adults with anxiety. In this article an overview of what is known about the prevelence and impact of late-life anxiety is presented, followed by a more detailed, critical review of the available treatment outcome literature.
