Isi artikel
Last year marked the sixtienth anniversary of the end of world war II. Sixty years represent the full sexagenary cycle of the chinese zodiac, so perhaps it was fitting that japan's total population began its decline in this watershed year. The census results announced at the end of 2005 heralded the arrival of a depopulating society, and this was corroborated in august 2006, when the ministry of internal affairs and communications released its resident register based statistics placing japan's population at 127.05 millon as of march 31, 2006 a decline of 3,505 from a year earlier.
