This paper attempts to investigate whether the linguistic skills obtained by EFL learners correlate with their translation skills. Although the two of them differ with respect to the requirements on language proficiency, it turns out that the linguistic output and the translation output produced by EFL learners have many things in common. By using Biggs and Collis' SOLO (the Structure of the Observed Learning Outcome) taxonomy in analyzing linguistic and translation samples produced by EFL learners of different levels, the author shows that the linguistic skills obtained by EFL learners do correlate with their translation skills.
