Pneumonia is ine of the most common infections in the pediatric age group and one of the leading diagnoses that reslts in overnight hospithal admission for children. Various micro-organisms can cause pneumonia, and etiologies differ by age. Clinical manifestations very, and diagnostic testing is frequently not standardized. Hospital management should emphasize timely diagnosis and prompt initiation of antimicrobial theraphy when appropriate. Issues of particular relevance to inpatient management are emphasized in this article.
