Isi artikelPlato's insistence on treating males and females equalily is notable. To him, both males and females are capable of bearing public task. It is therefore, reasonable that both males and females should be provided with equal opportunity for public training and education. It is however, too hasty to include him in a list of feminists. Reading carefully the philosopher's masterpiece. The republic and exploring his comprehensive delineation of citizens' political rights and duties in the law will exhaust readers' hastly impression of him as a feminist. Plato never struggles for human equality in terms of pollitical rights or against any idea of gender discrimination. What interests him most is but an unquestionable citizens' duty to the so called just city. His deep pre occupation of justice had prompted him to insist every citizen, both males and females, to sacrifice for the realization and the existence of the just city. So his demand for treating males and females equality should be viewed and understood primarily in the framework of citizen's unavoidable moral responsibility and pollitical duty to the state.
