In the last general election in indonesia in 2004, happened after the reformation era, applied the new political system when people chose the members of the house of representative (DPR) and the president and the vice president directly. For successing the election, the government did the socialization for the information of the election by the mass media. This research was done for knowing how the audience used the media, especially the television, relation to the information of the election and the attitude appeared. By the approach of the uses and gratification, done to analyse the behavior of the 179 students of faculty of social and political sciences (FISIP) of university of indoensia, year grade 2001 - 2003. They were sampled with the multystafes cluster sampling procedure in facing with the media. The majority of the respondent (67.7%) perceive that the mass media has the middle credibility. The 35.8% of the respondent choose the television as the source of the information to the election. In case the usage of this medium, there is the difference between the man and the woman. The information from this mass medium is admitted by the 44.4% of the respondent has changed their political preference. The participation in politic, actually does not correlate to the change of the students pollitical preference.
