Engineers and scientists at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (JHU / APL) have developed a device that is designed to be buried in the concrete when the bridge deck is poured. The device, known as a wireless embeddable sensor platform / smart aggregate (WESP / SA), can provide data about conditions within the bridge deck.
