Dopamine has a wide variety of functions from regulating motor function to inhibiting the release of prolactin from the pituitary gland. Several reports in recent years suggest that enhancing dopaminergic neurotransmission may be beneficial not only for patient with parkinsonism but also may improve orousal, attention and to decrease the symptom of fibromyalgia. Here we review the the neuropharmacology and the use of drug that alter dopamine neurotransmission.
