A new article by K. S. Jayaraman et al in the february issue (nat biotechnol 23, 158, 2005) highlighlts a model for predicting the emergence of resistance in the cotton bollworm helicoverpa armigera to cotton varieties containing the cry IAc gene that encofes Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) toxin. The model, published by a group enhanded by keshav kranthi of the central institute for cotton research in nagpur, predicts that Bt cotton in india and elsewhere, however indicates that resistance is taking longer than 3 to 4 years to emerge...
