Isi artikel
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the bayh dole act, a bill that forever changed the role of the university from purely pursuing knowledge to transferring that knowledge to the public domain for the public good. Universities have never looked back. Before 1980 the numbers of patent fillings numbered a few hundred per year. The latest estimates put that number in the many thousands per year 7,741 to be exact in 2002, the most recent year for which numbers exist. And with that change of emphasis came a new addition to the university workforce, the technology transfer officer. Once found in only a handful of major research institutions, tech transfer officers and offices can be found in hundreds of universities, large and small, in this country and around the world.
