Isi artikel
Since 1995, the Front National in France has successfully cast itself as a party of ideas. This, according to some observers, is where the power and danger of the French extreme right resides. A media conspiracy theory is seminal to the Front’s ideology, especially the belief that the media conspire with the political elite to destabilize the Front en route to destroying true nationalism in France. In offering a British perspective on the culture of conspiracy within the Front National, this article makes some attempt to resituate conspiracy in the context of existing theoretical models for the analysis of mass communications, showing the conspiracy model to be at least as sophisticated as some of the less lampooned communications models that have thus far been forwarded.
