Isi artikel
The purpose of this article is to show that tourism always is more than a mere reflective project. It also implies a sensuous and bodily involvement. The reason is that being a tourist is a kind of participating in the local national representations which normally has some kind of bodily dimensions. This goes especially for young nations like Finland where the lack of great castles, celebrated kings etc. is obvious, but where the abundance of nature to be used as national icons is the more striking. Being a tourist in Finland – as several places elsewhere – consequently means bodily involvement, not only as activity but also as 'pulse'. This is shown by means of personal experiences from Finland and by the analysis of Finnish tourist books and booklets.
