Poverty is the main problem not only in developing coutnries but also in developed countries. This problem is very serious in developing countries beacuse almost two third of the population is below the poverty line. To overcome the problem, the government of developing countries tries to conduct some policies that can be used to decrease the poverty problem. Some researchers believe that the trickle down effects are effective to eliminate the poverty. But, the recent studies show that the theorem is not working in developing countries because of the owner of money will generate their income but not the income of the poorest. To alleviate the poverty, it is neede to know the poverty line each region or country. To obtain the poverty line, the empirical research should be conducted and its results can be used to measure the poverty line. This research uses extended linear ecpenditure system. The model is estimated by using seemingly unrelated regression equations (SURE). The results show that the avergae poverty line is Rp. 115.157,08. This poverty line is reasonable because to live in Banda Aceh, everyone needs at least Rp. 115.157,08 per month. But the poverty lines for the household and its members are not appropriate to show the real poverty line because the values are lower than the average one. This is caused by the sample size used in this research. The limitation of this research is sample size. To obtain the best performance of this model it is needed further research that can represent the real value of povery line by obtaining tha approriate sample size, Appropriate sample size usually ca eliminate the econometric problems in estimate results.
