Computer-based learning software that has largely been developed based on the behavioral learning theory has particular weaknesses caused by this learning theory. To overcome the weaknesses another learning theory, the cognitive learning theory, is needed. However, due to its complexity, the cognitive learning theory is dificult to be applied, especially in the design of computer-based learning software. This paper discusses learning models in computer-based learning software which reflect the cognitive learning theory and tries to show the strength the computer technology has which can help learners to obtain learning skills needed in their lives.
