Spurred by a relatively recent article by smith on the idea of psychology as a human science, I revisited the idea as I expressed it in 1970, and I found it to be still desirable but basically unaccepted bny the psychological community at large. However, my idea is different from smith's and the differences are highlighted in this article. My vision includes the idea that a complete break fromm the natural science conception of psychology would be profitable at this time and only after psychology as a human science has had significant development, should the dialogue with psychology as a natural science be pursued. In addition, unlike smith, I agree that it is possible and desirable, for the discipline of psychology to be unified, and I provide a historical example by a brief presentation of the status of chemistry before lavoisier.
