The aims of the research are to find out : 1. the difference of student awarened on their rights and obligations as a citizen between the students who were taught with civic education subject in a conventional way and those taught by portfolio learning model 2. the correlation of the learning model and the level of students awareness on their rights and obligations as a citizen 3. the more productive and effective learning model to raise student awareness od rights and obligations as a citizen This quantitative research was done by experimental method. The subjects are the students of the Chimistry and Electric Technolody Departement in Muhammadiyah University of Purwokerto, as the population, consisting of 44 students. The population was randomly divided into two groups, 22 students for each group. A group is used as the control and another functions as the experiment group. Questionnaires were distributed to collec the data, which were then statistically analyzed with t-test, ANOVA and regression under SPSS version 10.0 program. The result of this research showed that there is a significant difference of the student awareness on their rights and obligations as citizen between students taught in a conventional way and those taught with the portdolio learning model, there is significant correlation of learning model and the level of the students awareness on their rights and obligations as a citizen, the learning model based on portfolio is proved to be more productive and effective than the conventional one in raising student awareness on their rights and obligations as a citizen.
