Isi artikelOne of the expectations of Sanata Dharma University is to take a part in developing Indonesia's young generations who are tolerant (can get along) with other religious followers in accordance with the spirit of Unity in Diversity. The Indonesian community has wasted relatively a lot of energy in delaying with societal conflicts triggered by the image of religion. The understanding of religion as a core of civilization and salvation mission carrier seems to fade away. Sanata Dharma University attempts to restore the positive image of religion as a binding knot for brotherhood and sisterhood, unity and peace amongst religious followers by providing religious courses (Islam, Catholic, Christian, Protestant, Hinduism and Buddhism) to all students in semester one. Such courses have been conducted in approximately the last five years. Each of the five religions is handled by a competent lecturer and the lecturer in question has opportunities to deliver his / her material in two class meetings, which equal to four contact hours in a semester. By studying all religions in this country, the students are expected to possess broad insights so that they do not become narrow-minded or fanatic, but can see other religious as ways (for followers) to attain salvation. As a result, the students will neither easily become suspicious of other religions followers nor easily be pitted againts each other. Furthermore, they will be tolerant by admitting the existing uniqueness of each religion.
