Isi artikelAside from giving many positive impacts on a marriage, the presence of children has also been reported to decrease the level of marital satisfaction. The present study was aimed to discover whether individuals in a marriage between couples with at least one or both partners having androgyny gender-role orientation would have a higher level of marital satisfaction compared to those couples with a traditional gender-role orientation (i.e. masculine husband and feminine wife). Individuals with an androgyny gender-role orientation have both high masculinity and high feminity, and therefore are more flexible in their cognitive processes and action, because they are not limitied by the tradition gender-role. The result of this study showed that husbands in a marriage with one or both androgynous partner(s) have a higher level of marital satisfaction than those from traditional marriage. Also, androginous wives (with masculine or androginous husbands) have a higher level of marital satisfaction than the feminine ones.
