Near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy has been used as a rapid and nondestructive technique and moisture content of several agriculture commodities. NIR spectroscopy is based on the absorption of electromagnetic radiation at wavelengths in the range 780-2500 nm. The objective of this research was to study the feasibility of using a nondestructive optical technique based upon NIR spectroscopy to determine the internal water content of maize or com seed. This study was also conducted to characterize the potential of NIR for the analysis of com seed water content. Each of four com seeds with 11%, 14,1%, 20,1% and 25,6% of water content, were scanned by NIR Spectroscopy three times in the range 900-1395 nm with 5 nm frequency interval to got one hundred reflectant data. The data was analysis using multivariate calibration technique PLS to predict the water content of the com seed. The result of this research showed that PLS analysis of the spectra indicated that 1325-1390 nm was the best subset of both com seed water content and absorbance co"elation linearity at each wavelength in the spectral region studied. Cross validation indicated that a PLS calibration model was appropriate for determining the water content of corn seed, providing cooficient corelation r2 = 0.941, the minimum mean square enor (SE) = 0,08% with Yprediction = 3.432129 x + 22.6753.
