Most of car and passenger ferries operated in Indonesian Naval Architects and built by local shipyards. But some of the Ferries are second hand vessels from Japan. KMP. DIGUL, one of the domestic made Ferry capsized and sunk in Arafuru Sea on 7th July, 2005. The ratio of main particulars and the assigned freeboards of those Ferries are observed by plotting the ratio values versus length between perpendiculars of the vessel. By referring the investigation report on KMP. DIGUL accident by Indonesian National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) and those mentioned above observation, a brief analysis is made to finding out anything wrong with the design of KMP. DIGUL in respect her freeboard and stability.
