Tuberculosis still a Public Health problem in Indonesia. The mortality rate increases every year. Consecutively it increases by 8.45 in 2+90, 8.65 in 1986, and 9.9% in 1992 from the total mortality rate. The household survey in 1990 shows that Tuberculisis is the third highest rank among diseases that cause death, and the first rank among infections diseases, In 1995 a program calles DOTS (Director Observed Treatment Shortcourse) was introduce. Family members were used as controllers to control whether patients used their medicine regularly. In order to know the efectiveness of using family members as a controller, a study was held in 5 health center in Tangerang which covers 84 patients, They all got anti TB drugs and spututm examination was done at the early stage of the therapy, 2 month, 5 month, and 6 month after therapy. the study concluded that it is effective to use family members as controllers.
