Studies of succession outcomes have reported mixed results. Several recent studies have suggested that consideration of organizational circumstances at the time a succession occurs enhances understanding of succession's consequences. Aspecys of organizational context examined in these studies have included size, control or ownership patterns, strategy and power distributions. The authors have argued that those aspects influence successions's impact on subsequent organizational performance.
