Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) has been a major global public health problem. it is a leading cause of hospitalization and death among children, especially in developing countries. it is necessary to study the epidemiology of dengue, in order to make further improvement in prevention and control of the disease. this paper will discuss about various aspects of dengue in Indonesia. several factors, such as geographic, economic and social condition in Indonesia have been a big influence to the health sector. these factors make the prevention and control of DHF difficult. one of the DHF outbreaks in Indonesia was in 1998, which was called " extraordinary". we will focus mainly to the case, and porpose ideas to improve prevention programs implementation in the future. general considerations about dengue and the global situation will be discussed first, as a general view to look into DHF problem.
