Isi artikel
Osteoporosis is a systematic skeletal disease characterized by low bone mass and microarchitectural deterioration of bone tissue, with a consequent increase in bone fragility and susceptibility to fracture.A deficiency of Calcium or vitamin D results in poor bone mineralization. Consuming the recommended intakes of Calcium and Vitamin D on a continous basis appears to be important to derive and maintain the maximal skeletal benefit. As dietary calcium intake is low, calcium supplementation is likely to be effective in preventing bone loss, a total daily calcium intake of 1.000mg should be adequate. High protein and Natrium intake are associated with excess urinary losses of Calcium..Formation and resorption of bone occurs continuously and were influenced by mechanical, nutritional and hormonal factors. While the role of calcium intake however remains controversial, over all studies tend to support a relationship between calcium intake and bone density. Calcium intake may be important both in the attainment of peak bone density and subsequent changes with age, and interactions may exist between other important determinant of bone mass, exercise and genetic factors. Several risk factors have been identified. With changes in lifestyle and diet, some patients may be able to reduce there chances of developing osteoporosis. The prevention of osteoporosis should aim to maximize peak bone mass and prevent menopausal bone loss.
