Helicobacter Pylori is a negative gram, spiral shaped bacteria that inhabits the human stomach and duodenum, due to its strong affinity to gastric epithelium. H. pylori is the etiology of chronic, non-erosive, non specific gastritis. A total of 334 chronic gastritis specimens were examined using Giemsa reagent. Results of examination showed that H. Pylori was detected in 75 of 196 specimens (38.3%) with chronic gastritis, 52 of 71specimens (73,3%) with chronic, active gastritis and intestinal metaplasia, and 3 of 3 specimens (100%) with duodenitis.
