Isi artikelINDIA's response to global as well as regional nuclear non-proliferation measures (including South and Southeast Asia) has been a dominant theme in the country's overall evolution of nuclear policy since the country gained independence from the British colonial rule in 1947. In 1974, India conducted a nuclear test which it termed a peaceful nuclear explosion and in 1998, India conducted a full scale nuclear test and subsequenly claimed to attain nuclear capability which was followed soon after by its neighbor, Pakistan, also opting for the same nuclear route.
