This article discusses the historical developments of the main causes of change in the melanesian society and the traditional key values of community, exchange and relationships. The people's willingness to establish new relationships with those who do not belong to the tribal group as seen in the wantok system is exposed with a recommendation that it be integrated with christian values and that christ be adopted as a wantok. Finally, the author illustrates the value of relationships and indicates some scripture verses that affirm or contradict the traditional values, giving some suggestions on how these valyes can be perfected by gospel or christian values.
