Despite modest growth, the goverment's economic-crisis managers made progress in at least one aspect of economic management: mecroeconomic stability. Macroeconomic stability is important for growth. Just like one's health, stability is not everything, but without it, other policies will not amount to much. Macroeconoic stability is an important achievement, and a prerequisite for growth. However, it is not enough. The next government therefore needs to exert greater effort and leadership in pursuing the priority areas of reviving the real sector and ensuring a sound financial sector.
